Lyrics of the album “WEEKEND COWBOY” (1998)
(Only the compositions of George McAnthony)
THANK YOU FOLKS (G. McAnthony)
“Thank You Folks; at 3 o'clock in the morning after my last New Year's Eve concert at the ski hut "Pian Del Falco" in Sestola, I felt the need to dedicate a song to all of you out there who have supported me over the last 10 years. One of my greatest joys is being on tour, seeing new places and meeting new people.”
This song is for her and him, the old and young ones, the fat and thin, who've always been around / as long as you'll be there, I'll carry on and drive anywhere, the show it must go on
Thank you folks for the times we've spent together, this is our tenth anniversary / thank you folks, we've had good and stormy weather, through all the years that you've been here with me
Hey roadie, turn on the light, tell me folks how do you feel tonight / I'm ready, to get the microphone / I ain't no star, well that ain't me, but I appreciate your company / are you ready, nobody's gotta go home / (Chorus)
I'm feeling high and I'm feeling blue, but I have made my dream come true / I'm a gypsy on life's highway / from east to west, I can't remain, north and south and back again / "tutti-frutti, yippiayeh
Thank you folks for the times we've spent together, this is our tenth anniversary / thank you folks, we've had good and stormy weather, through all the years that you've been here with me
HE'S TASTING FREEDOM (G. McAnthony)
“He's Tasting Freedom was written during a tour of Sardinia back in 1990. May God bless you in your search of freedom.”
Drive away on a pick up truck / mountain trip, don't get stuck / riding through the wide prairie, he's got so many new things to see
He's tasting freedom, always on the run / he's tasting freedom, can't find his way back home / but sometimes he's lonely, thinking about his girl back home, she's all alone / he'll return, his wheels will burn, one more hill to climb, he'll be back in time
Lord protect the traveling man, driving all across the land / hope there is no bad surprise, a hidden danger in disguise
He's tasting freedom, always on the run / he's tasting freedom, can't find his way back home / but sometimes he's lonely, thinking about his girl back home, she's all alone / he'll return, his wheels will burn, one more hill to climb, he'll be back in time
He sings lei lei la leileilei, like a bird in the sky / lei lei la leileiloo, hello, goodbye, got to go
He's tasting freedom, always on the run / he's tasting freedom, can't find his way back home Uh yeah, mhm, he's tasting freedom
WESTERN ROADHOUSE(G. McAnthony)
“last summer on a hot August day I had to drive from Cuneo to L'Aquila and stopped at various roadhouses along the italian highway. After this 10 hour journey, when I reached my destination, I had the inspiration to compose this song.”
I guess it was two years ago, was driving on a desert road / it felt so hot, boy, it did not rain / was on the way to Mexico and saw a sign beside the road "If you need anything come on just drive in" / oh oh, so I drove in
At the Western Roadhouse there's a party every night and every day, in Arizona / every one is grooving, every one is moving his feet, to the Hillbilly beat
Sitting there, drinking my beer, the fiddler he was coming near / "We ain't got no singer, would you join right in?" / and the guitar played / oh oh, so I began to sing
At the Western Roadhouse there's a party every night and every day, in Arizona / every one is grooving, every one is moving his feet, to the Hillbilly beat
So we were playing all night long, the party crowd would not go home / when the sun came up I finally gotta move on / still on the way to Mexico, another sign beside the road "If you need anything come on just drive in" / oh oh, start dancing / oh oh, it's gonna be late, boy / oh oh, so I drive in
WEEKEND COWBOY (G. McAnthony)
“With Weekend Cowboy I talk about all those people who like the country way of life and bring some colour into their gray world driving a Harley or a pick-up-truck, riding horses, being out in the wilderness or simply wearing some western outfit.”
See him standing in the rain, cowboy hat like old John Wayne / with his banjo on the back riding by the railroad track / what brings tomorrow is written in the stars
Weekend Cowboy, you are filled with joy, as you're walking down the road / Weekend Cowboy, life is like a show
He rides a Harley Davidson, his crazy days are not yet gone / working hard every day, but Friday night he's up and away / likes riding horses, loves playing guitar, that's him / (Chorus)
Still likes to wear his hair grown long, listening to the same old songs / this crazy world has got no dream, I guess you know what I mean / and you better find one, it keeps from going insane / he wears a Stetson and cowboy boots, he wears some blue jeans and a buckle too
Weekend Cowboy, you are filled with joy, as you're walking down the road / Weekend Cowboy, life is like a show / he wears a brand-new suit, and cowboy boots / he's got a little tattoo / he's like me and you
ANOTHER BROKEN HEART (G. McAnthony)
“Another Broken Heart was one of the first songs I ever wrote back in 1987, just after coming home from Ethiopia. I still ask myself why relationships brake up at a certain time.”
He's a hard working man, always been running / and all his friends may say he's doing fine / but tonight Frank is there with a bottle of whiskey, on his own / he's a kind of guy who's hardly ever crying
Another broken heart is feeling lonely, Kathy has left him, why did she go / another broken heart, it's not the only one I know / and from one day to another life gets out of control
He's trying to be strong and he starts praying / still wondering what's gone wrong and he feels ashamed / trying to forget her is easy to say but hard to do / tonight he can not sleep 'cause he feels the pain / (Chorus)
Can you ever leave the past behind? / time was very good, life was fine / why do bridges burn at a certain time?
No matter who's to blame when two lovers drift apart / life ain't easy for another broken heart, and I hope, he'll be heading, heading for a brand-new start, mhm / life ain't easy, ain't easy for a broken heart
TRAPPER JACKET JOE (G. McAnthony)
“during a crazy country festival in Arvier, Aosta in July 1997 I invented this song right away on stage. For some strange reason people kept asking for it during the whole summer tour. I thought I had to improve the music and mainly the words, but in the end I decided to leave it the way it was.”
Trapper Jacket Joe, gone to the left, gone to the right / Trapper Jacket Joe, gone to Ohio / move to Tennessee, what a place to be / Fly to Canada, Trapper Jacket Joe don't you move too far
Cowboy Hat Marie, waiting for the ship, sailing to the sea / Cowboy Hat Marie, ain't got no destiny / she's looking for a man who's looking for a wife / looking for a man who wants to live a cowboy life
Heyoh Yippiayeh, Trapper Jacket Joe and Hat Marie / Heyoh Yippiayeh, Joe and Marie / he dreams about a girl who loves the rodeo, she dreams about a man just the same as Jacket Joe
Cowboy Hat Marie is going to the Jamboree, Cowboy Hat Marie who're you gonna see / somebody who is cool, someone who's true / it's Trapper Jacket Joe, he's gonna fall in love with you
Heyoh Yippiayeh, Trapper Jacket Joe and Hat Marie / Heyoh Yippiayeh, Joe and Marie / he dreams about a girl who loves the rodeo, now he's got a girl who loves the rodeo / and she has got a man, you're lucky that you've found her, Joe
Trapper Jacket Joe, he's got her and he loves her / Trapper Jacket Joe, never ever let her go / but there's another guy called Pepperoni Bill / he has come to town looking for a country-girl
But Cowboy Hat Marie, she just doesn't like Bill / Cowboy Hat Marie loves Joe, she always will / 'cause Billy he has got that "Pepperoni Nose", and Joe he's so nice, yeah, he's the one she loves the most /
Heyoh Yippiayeh, Trapper Jacket Joe and Hat Marie / Heyoh Yippiayeh, Joe and Marie
THE STAR FROM DENVER (G. McAnthony)
“on 12 October 1997 John Denver died in a tragic aircrash.
I grew up with his music and this has greatly influenced me. Some years ago I had the great honour of meeting John personally and I like to dedicate this song to him.
I have recorded his hit Thank God I'm a Country Boy which we sang together during a concert in '92.”
I ride the midnight train, the blue moon is on the rise / calling a friend, flown up to paradise / the Star from Denver
You gave hope to the people / we won't forget it, goodbye John / fly away like an eagle, six white horses gonna take you home
Now you play in a band with Elvis, Freddie and John Lennon / with clapping hands of Mother Theresa and Lady Diana / the Star from Denver / and the band plays
"New American hero for our generation", Frankie Boy was right as he could be / it ain't over yet, you gotta new vocation, please tell me John now what do you see
With emotional truth and simple songs you’ve changed the world / with your voice so clean, and so much energy in every word / the Star from Denver, goodbye John / the Star from Denver, they're gonna take you home
CAMPFIRE SERENADE (G. McAnthony)
“Campfire Serenade is a love song dedicated to Sonja who has been at my side in my private and professional life for the last 6 years. I always wanted to write a 1950's Rock 'n' Roll Ballade.”
It's night in the valley, by the banks of the river / the moon keeps on shining so bright / there's peace all around us as we lay by the fire / and watch the stars as we hold each other tight / I'm so lucky to have you on my side
Singing this song just to tell how much I love you / sure that it will never end / in your blue eyes I can see the river flow / and the birds listen to this campfire serenade
My heart it is beating like a drum to the rhythm / my heart I give it to you / the night owl on the tree and the bluebird next to me seem to know that our dreams will come true / well I'm so lucky since the day I met you
Singing this song just to tell how much I love you / sure that it will never end / in your blue eyes I can see the river flow / and the birds listen to this campfire serenade
Your hand is so tender as it runs through my hair / all my troubles seem to be so far away / it feels like a breeze, filled with good memories / side by side, through the times, you and me / sharing life every night and every day
